In its strictest definition six sigma is a measurement, a degree of quality equal to 3.4 defects per one million opportunities. It is also the name of a quality improvement methodology developed by Motorola in the early 1990s and used by major corporations to save billions of dollars while improving product quality and customer satisfaction.
So what does this mean to me?
